Season Zero
The KTMA episodes (also known as Season Zero)
were created and produced by Joel Hodgeson and Jim
Mallon in 1988-'89. Those interested in getting these
episodes should be aware of several issues.
First, the show was shown locally in
Minneapolis/St. Paul during '88-'89. It is believed
that there was only a few people with the presence of
mind to record the shows. Thus, everyone's copies
of these episodes come from a very limited pool. It also
explains why there are no copies of the first 3.
Next, these episodes are lower in quality than the rest
of my collection both in terms of tape quality
(picture, sound, etc) and in production values. There
is one episode in which Joel is in the theater by himself
for the entire episode, for example. These episodes
are therefore graded more leniently than the rest of
my collection.
I am not trying to discourage anyone from getting
these episodes. I believe that those who want
to eventually collect the entire series should have these
episodes in their library. However, these would
not be the best selection for those who just want
to get a few episodes to watch.
